GI High Energy Cookbook by Rachael Anne Hill

Rachael believes passionately in 'intelligent healthy eating' instead of 'dieting'.  Known as the 'GI Guru' she strongly believes in the power of a diet rich in low GI foods to boost energy levels and enhance weight loss.

Whether you want to lose weight, increase your energy levels or reduce the risk of getting diabetes or other diseases, GI High-Energy Cookbook explains in clear language why you should be eating a diet based on foods with a low glycaemic index (GI). Writer and nutritionist Rachael Anne Hill explains why this approach benefits everyone, not just those who want to lose weight. She gives practical advice on how to incorporate this approach into your daily diet, from supermarket shopping to choosing from a restaurant menu. And with over 60 low-GI, low-fat recipes which take only 20 minutes or less to prepare, there is plenty of inspiration for cooking the healthy way every day.

Amazon Reviews:

Fabulous book! It has changed the way I think about food forever. I've lost three stone in four months, my hair and skin look and feel great and I have loads of energy at last. The recipes are all easy to follow, the ingredients are cheap and simple to find and the results are outstanding. Hoorah to this book, I love it! I've recommended it to many people, they've purchased it and everyone thinks the same as I do. I've even got my chocolate-loving boyfriend eating beans (not the baked variety on toast), lentils and very little red meat. Scrummy, truly scrummy. I would recommend this book to everyone as it's changed my life. I now refer to it as my food bible - enough said!  (Helen Underwood, England)

I love this book. Tasty, easy to do recipes, most of which are ready to eat in 20 minutes. Even the ones that need longer cooking are easy to put together. The recipes are adaptable, so if you don't have one thing to hand you can usually substitute with something else.

But, more to the point, it seems to work. Using nothing but this book plus some work on the exercise bike I'm losing 2-3lbs per week, feel better and actually look forward to cooking. Hell, I even made some peanut butter flapjacks for the first time in my life! And, crucially, unlike some other diets, this one is properly balanced - the right mix of good protein, good carbs and good fats. Heartily recommended. (Alan Macdonald, London)

This book is stuffed full of tasty, filling recipes which are generally quick and easy to prepare. Some dishes require a bit of advance preparation if you work full-time like me, but they have all been worth the effort. I have dieted in the past, but this is the first time I have really enjoyed it. The food is so tasty and satisfying there's no need to 'cheat'. The information offered is helpful too - it gives you enough info to be able to adapt some of your old, favourite recipes into Low-GI by selecting the correct food type, quantities, substitutions and cooking method. Nothing is completely banned, it just suggests healthier alternatives or how to lower the GI of a meal if you're including a high-GI food into it. If you're into the GI method, buy this. You won't regret it.  (L Collins.  Scotland)
